Virtues

This is heavily inspired by Ben Franklin's Plan for Attaining Moral Perfection. Several points are lifted directly from his framework.

  • Temperance: Maintain balanced desires and remain free from excess in all things.
  • Self-mastery: Maintain total command over your thoughts, actions, habits. Never let external pressures and pleasures govern your behavior.
  • Equanimity: Maintain emotional sovereignty. Let no one govern your passions.
  • Honesty: Never lie, steal, or cheat, even at great personal expense.
  • Justice: Always fulfill duties and obligations. Wrong no one.
  • Humility: Understand you're entitled to nothing.
  • Industry: Always be employed in something useful. Cut off all unnecessary actions.
  • Silence: Speak only to benefit yourself or others. Avoid pointless conversation.
  • Order: Keep your space, time, and responsibilities organized so that each has its proper place and attention.
  • Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.
  • Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes, or habitation.
  • Kindness: Treat others how you want to be treated.
